
Organist Job Description
The First Presbyterian Church of Glendale, Ohio is seeking a part-time organist to enrich our congregation’s worship services with inspiring music. The organist will play a vital role in supporting the worship life of the congregation by providing music for our Sunday services, special events, and occasional services such as weddings and funerals.
Principal Function: The organist, supervised by the minister and Worship Committee Chairperson, serves as organist and assists in the congregation’s music ministry using a two-manual Moller pipe organ 1966, and piano.
Responsibilities
- Play for all Sunday morning and occasional special services.
- Select prelude and postlude pieces for Sunday worship services, and communicate selections to the church office.
- Serve as accompanist for choirs, ensembles, and soloists in special rehearsals and performances, as assigned.
- Play for weddings and funerals, as requested.
- Coordinate with outside musicians and organ maintenance contractors as needed.
- Work collaboratively with the minister and Worship Committee in music selection for worship services, choir rehearsals, and special music events as a committee member.
- Arrange for substitute organist during absences.
Qualifications
+ A bachelor’s degree or higher in music.+ Previous experience playing organ or piano in a church setting.
+ Proficiency in playing the organ and piano with an understanding of church music traditions.
+ Ability to accompany choir and congregational singing on organ or piano.
This is a part-time position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
